Thickness: 1 3/4" Surfaced
Widths: 4"–9"
Length: 2', 3', & 4'
8/4 Sapele surfaced to 1 3/4" offers substantial thickness with the added convenience of pre-surfaced material, reducing the milling required before beginning your project. Sapele is known for its rich reddish-brown color, distinctive interlocked grain, and attractive natural luster. It can also display striking ribbon-like figure, particularly on quartersawn surfaces. At 1 3/4" thick, this material is an excellent choice for substantial furniture components, table legs, thick tabletops, benches, and other woodworking projects requiring heavier stock.
Species: Sapele (Entandrophragma cylindricum)
Thickness: 1 3/4" surfaced from 8/4 stock
Width: 4"–9"
Grain: Typically interlocked, with a fine to medium texture and attractive natural luster; quartersawn surfaces can display pronounced ribbon-like figure
Color: Golden to medium reddish brown, typically darkening and developing richer tones with age
Applications: Furniture, thick tabletops, table legs, benches, shelving, architectural details, decorative accents, and specialty woodworking
Workability: Machines, sands, glues, and finishes well overall. Its interlocked grain can be prone to tearout, so sharp tools and careful machining are recommended. Clear finishes beautifully enhance Sapele’s rich color, natural luster, and distinctive grain.
Surfaced 8/4 Sapele provides the thickness needed for substantial woodworking projects while eliminating much of the initial milling required with rough lumber. Its combination of rich color, attractive figure, strength, and generous 1 3/4" finished thickness makes it a versatile option for both functional and decorative projects.
